New 'Descendants' Film 'Wicked Wonderland' Reveals Release Date and First Look

Disney has officially revealed the release schedule for its new movie, "Descendants: Wicked Wonderland," along with a preview trailer. This latest installment is set to premiere on July 16 on the Disney Channel, and will be accessible for streaming on Disney+ starting July 17. The movie's soundtrack will also be released on July 17 by Walt Disney Records.

In this fifth film of the "Descendants" saga, the narrative picks up with the Queen of Hearts (portrayed by Rita Ora) having undergone a transformation into a benevolent character, and Cinderella (played by Brandy) enjoying a peaceful existence. However, this altered past inadvertently gives rise to a new antagonist, Maddox Hatter (Leonardo Nam). When Maddox abducts the Queen of Hearts, protagonists Red (Kylie Cantrall) and Chloe (Malia Baker) must unite with a diverse group of allies, including Red's newfound sister Pink (Liamani Segura), Luis (Alexandro Byrd), Hazel (Kiara Romero), and Maddox's son Max (Brendon Tremblay), to rescue the Queen and restore harmony to Wonderland.

The film features an ensemble cast, with Melanie Paxson returning as the Fairy Godmother and Paolo Montalban as King Charming. New additions to the cast include Joel Oulette as Robbie Hood, Zavien Garrett as Felix Facilier, Ryan McEwen as Squirmy Smee, and Dayton Paradis as Squeaky Smee. Awkwafina lends her voice to the character of Chessy the Cat. The script for "Descendants: Wicked Wonderland" was penned by Tamara Chestna, Dan Frey, and Ru Sommer, with Kimmy Gatewood directing. Suzanne Todd and Gary Marsh are serving as executive producers, while Chestna and Gatewood are also co-executive producers, and Emilio Dosal is the choreographer. The "Descendants" franchise extends beyond feature films to include various television productions, such as animated and prequel spin-off series, further enriching its fantastical universe.
